John Hambley, Director

In addition to an honours degree in Fine Art from Cardiff School of Art, John also possesses an MSc in the Management of Intellectual Property from the Faculty of Law at Queen Mary College, University of London.  John is the founding Director of Alchemy Creative Solutions Ltd initially a company that was created in 2004 to provide independent advice and guidance on all aspects of Public Art commissioning.  In 2010, Alchemy Creative Solutions Ltd expanded its scope and reach, resulting in the launch of RFID Protect and an involvement with BAE Systems and Toshiba amongst others.

Away from his work for Alchemy Creative Solutions Ltd, John is a Board Member for TRACE: Installation Artspace, Wales’ foremost organisation for the promotion of time-based arts through artists’ placements, publishing and international exchange.  A lifelong supporter of the Arts, he was a co-founder of Kings Road Studios in Cardiff and was instrumental in the development of Collectorplan (an interest-free credit service to help individuals buy contemporary art and craft in Wales, now with an annual turnover of £1,000,000), also Artes Mundi Prize (at £40,000 to the winner it remains the UK’s largest prize for contemporary visual artists), and establishing the very first Welsh presence at the prestigious Venice Biennale of Art in 2003.
